OH...MY...GOSH...
I just came back from a college visit at THE University of Cincinnati, and OH MY GOSH it is FREAKING PERFECT!!!
The campus is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, even though it was all covered in old snow, but the architecture and designs of the buildings were amazing! The residence halls are really nice, and the whole campus just has this wonderful feel to it! I get to go back in about a month for their Explore DAAP Day (DAAP is their school of art and design), so I'm really looking forward to that! And the location of the campus is great. It's located near this cute little shopping strip with a bunch of shops and restaurants, and just the setting of the city that it's in is just beautiful! Since I'm going into their Fine Art program, I'm required to do Co-op semesters, which means I get PAID to get on-the-job experience in my field, and it's all set up by the university. I even have the chance to do my co-op abroad, so who knows? I might get to work in Japan (talk about a dream come true)! I get to have a car on campus my freshman year, and, after my freshman year, I can live off-campus, which means I can bring my cat down to Cincy with me! Oh my gosh, I am just SO excited about the University of Cincinnati! I feel like, with all of its diversity in students, programs, and clubs, I belong there. It is everything I've ever dreamed about and more. Only six months until I start my life there. I can't wait!

Frustrated

5 min read
Okay, normally I'm not the kind of person to do this, and I don't really like talking about real-life people on here (or anywhere, at all, really) but GOSH DANG IT this just made me so mad today!

Okay, so, I'm drum major in my school's band, so that means I conduct the shows during marching season and lead practices when our director is away. Today was the first time I lead a practice, and I was told to have us practice our pep tunes. I was mostly taking requests from seniors, since, y'know, seniority, and most of the requests I was taking were coming from the flutes and clarinets, who sit up front. I got a request for "Don't Stop Believing", but I was cautious of that one because with our arrangement of it, only the flutes really do anything interesting, and it's not fair to make the rest of the band play just quarters/repeated eighths(my part) just to make a few people happy, plus we had been playing it at games a lot lately. I had gotten a request for "Bohemian Rhapsody" earlier, but it got drowned out, so I decided to have the band play Bohemian instead. A sophomore flute said that I was ditching Don't Stop because I didn't like it, when in reality it was because EVERYONE hates it, and because we had played it enough to the point that we needed to practice other songs. Since most of my requests were coming from the front row, I directly asked the back row what they wanted to play after Bohemian, and while they were getting "Get Ready" out, I heard my friend (who's a flute) complaining to the clarinet section leader about how I skipped over Don't Stop, and it's like, really? You're in the front. I CAN FUCKING HEAR YOU. Anyways, after "Get Ready", I got another request for "Don't Stop Believing", and I was sick of the shit-talking so I just decided to have them play it, when a saxophone requested "Frankenstein", a song that most of the band likes (except for the flutes, of course). After "Don't Stop Believing" (I regretted having the band play that song because it's like, when you direct it, you can HEAR how painfully boring it is for everyone, I actually mouthed "I'm sorry" to one of my friends who plays saxophone), I had the band get "Frankenstein" out, and that's where the shitstorm really started picking up. We had time for "Frankenstein", but the same flute girl was like "Do we even have enough time to play it?", and it's like, I wouldn't have us play it if there wasn't time (and I wasn't about to end practice with such a clichéd song <sorry not sorry Don't Stop fans B| >), but then she and another flute player were saying how it's not fair that we're playing "Frankenstein", a song that the flutes hate, just because we also played "Don't Stop Believing", a song that EVERYONE BUT THEM hates. The band really likes "Frankenstein", it's a fun tune, the only complaints I've ever gotten were all from flutes. I put my foot down and said that we were going to play "Frankenstein" and also, yeah, I said that I didn't appreciate the side comments about how I chose the songs that were going on RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. GOSH, I was fucking pissed. Flute girl must've said something, but I wasn't paying attention because I was looking at my music and trying to get the tempo, so, y'know, I could conduct it properly, which is what's kind of expected of a drum major, but she was just like "WHATEVER." I looked up at her and I must've had the meanest, nastiest glare on my face, because I got a (rather appreciative) comment on it afterward when I was trying to establish peace after practice. I had never been so pissed at this girl in my life. I mean, we're good friends, we've been in cross country, track, and band together since I joined all three my sophomore year. I respected her as captain during cross season, so why can't she respect me as drum major during band? Why do I always feel the need to apologize to people for the shit they do to me?

If there's anything that people can take away from this, it's that you shouldn't assume that just because normal authority figure is gone, replacement≠complacent. I have to run things in a fair way, or at least as fair as I've seen. I've seen our band director use some of her own personal preference to filter through requests, and she has every right to. I much would've rather played "Carry On My Wayward Son" or "Alive and Amplified" Or "Runaway Baby", but we didn't play any of these because no one requested them. I wasn't trying to make practice all about what I wanted to play, I just didn't want one group monopolizing the whole practice. I'm a clarinet, a soprano woodwind, I sit in front of the band as well, but as a drum major, I stood in front of the whole band, so it didn't make sense that I was still only listening to the front row. I was trying to be diplomatic, but I guess that means that I have to make some people unhappy if they aren't willing to be happy with what someone else wants. Also, when you talk shit about the person in charge especially when you're only five feet away, it makes them feel like shit, puts a whole lot of unnecessary pressure on them, and it's very distracting. For something like band or a sports team, the drum major or team captain holds that position for a reason, and it's only fair to give them the proper respect.

...Okay, so, it's been a loooooooooooooooong time since I've put anything up (besides my ORAS May hair cosplay trial [check that out though, it's pretty sweet]), and I figured I'd come on here to say HEEEEEEEYYYYY. SUUUUUUUUUUUUPPPPP.
*Ahem* Anyways, here's what been happening with me, in no particular order.
  • I finished the first semester on my senior year in high school.
  • I finished my last cross country season(tears).
  • I finished my last marching band season(less tears but still tears).
  • I got a kitty!

On a more serious note, my father passed away about a month and a half ago at the age of 69 on November 23, 2014. He had been hospitalized since early October for his kidneys shutting down, and for an infection in his body, which was revealed to be sepsis. The infection punctured the valves in his heart, which was most likely the cause of his death, in addition to his kidney function, his age, and prior health problems. The worst part of his death was realizing that he had lived a long life, but I had only known him for eighteen years. My mom had me at forty, my dad was almost eleven years older than my mom, so I knew he would go long before my mom would. I just never expected it to be so soon. I love you, Dad, and I miss you so much.

On a lighter note, here's what's to come from me in the future:
  • More original artwork and characters
  • Fanart from Fairy Tail, Pokémon, Attack on Titan, Naruto, The Mortal Instruments, Tsubasa Chronicles, and possibly more
  • Fanfiction
  • Original writing
  • Poetry
  • Requests might be a possibility once I build my body of work
  • More frequent journal updates
  • Possibly Premium Membership for me (yay!)
Anyways, that's most of what I have to say right now. It's late, I got things to do tomorrow, so I'm gonna leave this up here to hopefully inform you all of what's going on with me. If there's anything else you want to know, don't be afraid to ask!

SAT Scores!

1 min read
I normally wouldn't put anyone like this up on this website, but I'm just so happy about it that I want to share it with everyone I know!
I just got my SAT scores today, and I scored a 1920! I scored a 660 in Reading, a 640 in Writing, and a 620 in Math! The requirements for my schools honors diploma are a 1210 composite in Reading and Math, and I topped that, so I also meet the requirements for my school's honors diploma! I am just so excited right now! Honors Diploma, college, Cincy, it's all within reach, just need to get through this year!
